Description
This Czech-language scholarly book focuses on Tertullian of Carthage, one of the first early Christian authors to write in Latin, and his views on the human soul, which were greatly influenced by Stoicism. The first study examines Tertullian’s conception of the human soul as a body of its own kind (corpus sui generis); the second explores his ideas about the origin and transmission of this corporeal soul, which is ultimately an “offshoot” (tradux) of Adam’s soul passed from parents to their descendants. The book also includes an excursus on traducianism in the early Church and a Czech translation of selected chapters from Tertullian’s work De anima.
