This Czech-language graphic biography tells the story of Doctor Takashi Nagai of Nagasaki (1908–1951), regarded around the world as the Gandhi of Japan. Through his medical studies, he first lost the faith of his ancestors and considered himself an atheist, but eventually came to believe in Christ, helped by the prayers and example of his future wife, Midori. He spent years researching radiology despite the risk of developing leukemia, which eventually happened. At the end of the Second World War, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, and he lost almost everything in an instant: the entire Christian district was reduced to ashes, thousands of people including his beloved Midori died within seconds, and the cathedral and their home were left in ruins. The hospital lay in rubble and all his research was destroyed. Nagai survived the blast with his two children and, together with several colleagues, helped treat the wounded. Suffering from radiation sickness, he knew he would not live long, yet during his remaining years he gave hope in his hut to many people who came to him from across Japan and abroad. His beatification process is already underway in Rome.
