Description
To those who claim that Scripture says little about Mary, it can be answered that it is precisely with Mary that the Bible begins and ends. Already on the first pages, it speaks of the mother of all living (cf. Gen 3:20) and at the end describes a woman overcoming the dragon (cf. Rev 12:9). Those who know that the New Testament is included and hidden in the Old and that the Old opens up in the New will easily notice that Eve points to Mary and Adam to Christ, and that the promise of victory over the serpent contains a prophetic promise about Mary. Just as the Bible begins and ends with a 'woman,' similarly, Jesus' public ministry in the Gospel of John unfolds between two descriptions of Mary, whom he always refers to as 'woman' (cf. John 2:4; 19:26). In short, for those who 'have ears to hear' (Mark 4:23), Mary is omnipresent in God's word. (from the author's introduction)
