Description
Priest John Bosco (1815–1888) works in Turin during a politically tense period when the public is far from sympathetic towards the Church. He takes an interest in poor boys lost in the industrial city, something not expected of clerics at the time, and often literally gathers them from the streets. At first he spends Sunday afternoons with them, then establishes homes, workshops and schools for them. He gives them not only his time, but above all himself. By the time he dies, his Salesians are active throughout Italy and elsewhere in Europe, as well as in distant South America. Today, their communities can be found in almost 140 countries around the world, including several locations in the Czech Republic.
