Description

The comic captures the dramatic fate of Zita, the wife of Blessed Emperor Charles I of Habsburg. She and Charles grew close in Franzensbad, and they unexpectedly ascended to the throne during World War I. Zita was a great support to her husband. However, they soon had to go into exile. By 1922, she was widowed and left alone on Madeira with eight children: she was only thirty years old. With great trust in Divine Providence, she raised her children and ensured they received a good education. She had to move to another country many times: as a child, she moved between Italy and Austria, later she was forced to leave Madeira for the Basque Country and Belgium; from there, she had to flee with her children from Hitler to Canada and the USA. Only in her old age did she return to Europe. She died in Switzerland in 1989 at the age of 96. She was deeply religious, and her beatification process is currently underway.
