The first universal presidential election brought a wave of heightened emotions that clearly reflect the expectations and frustrations of society in recent years. Thanks to media coverage, most of us also asked ourselves what our general attitude towards the office of the president is and what role we attribute to it in the life of society. These are, among other things, questions that the well-known editor of MF DNES, Jiří Kubík, has posed over the years to a number of prominent figures in public life. The interviews with Václav Havel, Václav Klaus, Miloš Zeman, as well as Zdeněk Svěrák, Michal Viewegh, Věra Čáslavská, Vladimír Franz, Dominik Duka, and many others, which were published in the newspaper, form only one dimension of the book. Jiří Kubík has provided them with extensive commentary that reveals the background of these interviews and, with the passage of time, also explains and 'completes' the political themes and issues that were discussed and which have stirred society in recent years. Thus, the book is also a very open look into the backstage of journalistic work, into the techniques and strategies of conducting interviews, and besides that, it also offers unexpectedly interesting political history.
