Description
Enclitics represent a phenomenon that lies at the intersection of the phonetic and grammatical structure of language, and due to a number of universal linguistic mechanisms affecting its word order, it is a popular subject of interest in contemporary linguistics. The work is divided into chapters dedicated to individual types of so-called permanent enclitics: ancient particles ť (ti/tě) and li, forms of the auxiliary verb in the preterite and conditional, short pronoun forms that have a long (stressed) variant, and the adverb/conjunction však. The work is based on a material analysis of a private corpus of printed works of various genres published between 1620 and 1775. It is designed to allow insights into the trends and changes that the word order of Czech enclitics underwent during the historical development of the Czech language, with Baroque Czech being situated approximately in the middle between Old and Modern Czech. The author of the publication, Pavel Kosek, is an assistant professor at the Institute of Czech Language at the Faculty of Arts of Masaryk University, where he teaches courses focused on the development and history of the Czech language.
