An expanded and revised edition of one of the most important encyclopedic guides in the humanities. One hundred and three entries present scientific concepts that have fundamentally influenced thinking about literature in the 20th century. Both canonical works, which are still debated and updated, and stimulating works from recent years have been selected, not only from literary studies but also from linguistics, philosophy, media studies, and psychology. The publication aims – in accordance with its title – to be a guide for all representatives (especially students) not only of philological fields but also of other humanities and social disciplines, such as cultural theory, media studies, visual arts theory, history, gender studies, etc. The reason is clear: literary-theoretical concepts from recent decades have often become a fundamental inspiration for methodological shifts in these fields. A team of nearly fifty experts collaborated on the entries. The whole is introduced by a study from literary theorist and historian Aleš Haman, which summarizes the main methodological trends in a diachronic overview and provides the reader with guidance in searching for connections between individual scientific concepts.
