Description
From the works of a leading representative of the Brethren Reformation, bishop, poet, translator, linguist, and music theorist Jan Blahoslav, we publish four moral and polemical works that combine erudition with musicality and rhetorical skill. The texts are accompanied by a rich apparatus of notes and detailed explanations. The volume contains polemics and treatises: On the Origin of the Unity of the Brethren and the Order Within It (1547), A Treatise on Sight, How a Person Can Harm Himself or Others by Sight and Viewing (1550), Corrolarium added in the year 1567 on February 17 (the so-called Philippic against the Misomusi, 1567), and The Faults of Preachers (1571). The volume also includes a commentary that allows even readers who are not well acquainted with 16th-century Czech literature to better understand the published works.
