That summer is one of the hottest that people in Sweden can remember. What is the connection between the retired minister, a successful gallery owner, and an ordinary petty thief? Why does the killer scalp his victims? How many more will there be? And who was the girl who was burned? Wallander is desperately searching for answers and, above all, for the one responsible for these atrocities. He has no idea that the killer is closer than he would like.
