Description
The novella takes the reader to the outskirts of the city, to a partially dilapidated house hidden somewhere in the midst of a former factory complex among the tall furnaces of the Vítkovice ironworks. Just as the production halls of the factory have decayed, rusted, and fallen apart, so have the people who still survive in the house. The story with a detective plot describes the fates of four neighbors who, in search of seemingly the simplest path in life, commit a crime. All the protagonists share a past spent in the cage of the factory, an inability to change their lives for the better, and an inability to imagine themselves as the architects of their own fate. Together, they vegetate between the walls of panel houses, far from the gaze of people and the interest of authorities. In quiet observation, they become witnesses, and ultimately even actors of the crime. Anyone who would want to pull them out of the comfort of their order becomes dangerous to them. There is nothing easier than getting rid of an inconvenient person...
