Description
A black-and-white photograph of a human skull is displayed in a showcase in Tišnov near Brno. The skull has a hole in the forehead. A gunshot wound. It is not a pretty sight. The year is 1951. The photograph is meant to show everyone how cruel those who decided to engage in the anti-communist resistance are. They do not hesitate to resort to weapons and sacrifice human life! But what was the real story that ended with the execution of two unfortunate students from Tišnov — Vlastimil Železný and Alois Pokorný? And what did their resistance group JAN actually look like, and what about the resistance in the surrounding region? The book by the authors Luděk Navara and Miroslav Kasáček attempts to unravel the background of this sad event — it turns out that the tragedy is connected with a whole series of other stories and specific fates of those who had the courage to resist with weapons in hand. The authors draw from original period sources and the memories of witnesses, and many documents will be published for the first time. Just like in the previous book Stories of the Third Resistance, the narrative is complemented by a whole series of authentic photographs and archival materials.
