Description

The historical novel by a significant Czech author When one of the most important military leaders and politicians of the Thirty Years' War, Albrecht Václav Eusebius of Wallenstein (1583–1634), was still an unknown and poor nobleman, he made two tactical moves from today’s perspective: he converted to Catholicism and married the wealthy widow Lukrecie Nekšová of Landek, the owner of the Vsetín estate. Five years later, Mrs. Lukrecie passed away, and Albrecht managed to acquire her property as an inheritance. How did this happen? What took place in Vsetín at that time? Was it a key moment for Wallenstein's future career? Such questions were posed by the writer Ota Filip, who, in his own words, was a half-Moravian from Hošťálková near Vsetín, in the 1970s during the first period of his exile in Bavaria. The contemporary scholarly literature on this period of Wallenstein's life was silent, which is why Ota Filip decided to tell the story as it could have happened and perhaps did happen, while letting his imagination run free. The book was published in German in 1979 and in the same year in Czech under the title Wallenstein and Lukrecie by the exile publisher 68 Publishers in Canada. Now, after more than thirty years, it is being published again in Czech, with only minor adjustments and a changed title.
