Description
The volume presents eleven poetic books by František Hrubín (1910–1971) from his early collections of "misty beauty" Zpíváno z dálky, Krásná po chudobě, and Země po polednách, through the spiritual Včelí plást created during the war, to the post-war books Jobova noc and Hirošima, in which the author grappled with the war catastrophe, occupation, and the new threat to humanity, up to the late works Proměna, Romance pro křídlovku, Až do konce lásky, Černá denice, and Lešanské jesličky, in which he returned to the personal and existential dimension of his poetry. For the first time since the author's death, four decades after the publication of Hrubín's poetic works and a hundred years after his birth, readers are presented with a collection of the classic's peak works of Czech poetry. The valuable material is complemented by commentary that, among other things, compares the original versions of Hrubín's poems as they were published in magazines and newspapers with their book versions.
