Description
The secret signal in the apartment of seamstress Božena Majerová is simply devised: a flower pot on the right means it is safe. A flower pot on the left is a warning. This is an important measure. The apartment is hiding agent Tomáš Oliva of the British secret service, who organizes his intelligence network from here. It is the year 1950. It is the time of Gottwald's terror, during his rule a total of 237 people will be executed. The exceptionally large resistance group around Tomáš Oliva was not yet known to the Czech public. Its members numbered in the dozens, and six transmitters ensured connections to the West, with other agents besides Oliva operating within the group. One of them, after a shootout with members of the secret police in a hopeless situation, shoots himself in the head... The story of the people around Oliva and Majerová is one full of courage, but also naivety and disappointment. It shows how broad support the anti-communist resistance had, but also how cruel an enemy the resistance fighters had to face. Not everyone was able to resist and not betray. The book maps, based on collected personal testimonies, archival documents, and comments, not only the activities of the Božena Majerová and Tomáš Oliva group but also other resistance organizations that operated primarily in the southern region during the 1950s...
