Description
The awakening of the Russian Empire began with nostalgia for the Soviet Union. This gnawing emotion persisted until it grew into the war in Ukraine. It was declared holy because it fought against the alleged Ukrainian fascism, against which Soviet grandfathers and fathers died during the patriotic wars. To justify its attack on the neighboring country, the beast declared another war – a battle for the values of spiritual Russian civilization against the materialistic West. Who benefits from this interpretation? Ethnologist Pavlína Brzáková tells the stories of Siberian shamans and hunters supporting the current regime in Russia, as well as the story of the Yakut shaman-soldier Gabyšev, who rebelled against this regime and set out with his squad on a long march from Yakutsk to Moscow to drive the demon Putin out of the Kremlin.
