Description

This book is a tribute to a writer of global renown and significance, written by his friend and long-time collaborator. After Lustig's return from American exile, he spent many shared days and nights with him over twenty years, including discussions and trips to the Mauthausen concentration camp or to Washington, where the writer and educator lived with his family and taught. He accompanied him to the New Jewish Cemetery in Prague, where his mother and other ancestors rest, as well as to the area between the German Klingenthal and the Czech Kraslice, where he and his friend Jiří Justic escaped in April 1945 from a death train heading from the labor camp in Meuselwitz near Buchenwald to Dachau. In a collection of authentic memories, František Cinger captures the uniqueness of the creator's personality, who dedicated his literary and film work to the victims of the Holocaust, the destruction organized by the Nazis against the Jewish nation. The book also presents a number of unknown anecdotes from Lustig's life, such as encounters with people like Che Guevara or Golda Meir.
