Description

This is a book about the adventure hidden under the word Egyptology and is connected to the discoveries that our archaeologists have uniquely enriched the knowledge of ancient Egypt with. It is and is not a bit about Miroslav Verner (1941), a legend of Czech and world archaeology. Without his expertise, which spans many fields, but also his personal courage, perseverance, and negotiating skills, Czech Egyptology would have long been a thing of the past. He was, in fact, the only bearer of the field at Charles University for several years, a field that was set to be abolished. Nevertheless, he managed to build an institute with an excellent international reputation and obtain an archaeological concession in Egypt, which is among the most significant. When we prepared the first edition of this book, the title Forty Years in Egypt naturally suggested itself. However, since then, a lot of water has flowed in the Nile and the Vltava, and the work needed to be supplemented and expanded with new research and findings, which meant several new chapters and around seventy photographs. It was also necessary to remind that a new generation of very capable Egyptologists has grown up in our country. So there was nothing left but to change the title of the book while preserving the essence - the relationship to Professor Miroslav Verner.
