Description
This Czech-language poetry collection is Milan Calábek’s first book and is published on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. Created over many years, it presents a very different face of poetry from what readers usually encounter. It offers a vision of the world seen from a level that can be reached only through a certain inner transformation, which reading the book quietly encourages. The poems address something deeper, perhaps even eternal, within the soul, and often humorously reveal everything we are not and what causes our suffering. Their spiritual power recalls the teachings of Zen, Mahayana, Vedanta and Christian mysticism, which come together in the poems as an organic whole. Calábek’s four-line poems were not originally intended for publication and circulated only among a close circle of the author’s friends, apart from several verses published in the calendar Buddha: dvanáct podob Probuzeného. The contents are in Czech.
