Description
In the Hebrew Book of the Dead, Zhenya Senyak describes the soul's journey between lives and its ultimate return to the Creator of the Universe. It is a gripping narrative of trials, tribulations, sacrifices, and love, showing the way to liberate the soul from the cycle of lives. Everyone knows the story of a nation that was enslaved and later miraculously freed, only to cross a river after cruel suffering in the desert and settle in the promised land. The first stop for the Hebrews is the ancient city of Gilgal, which is a Hebrew term for reincarnation. In the Hebrew Book of the Dead, reincarnation is the central theme: it is for this reason that the arduous journey across the desert was undertaken, where the soul is to be liberated so that it can descend again into a body in the earthly world of Asiya and perform God's work there. References to reincarnation can be found in various places in the Hebrew Bible, even in the Talmud. The ancient historian Josephus Flavius also mentions it in his works Antiquities of the Jews and The Jewish War. In the period following the closing of the Talmud, the doctrine of gilgal was adopted by the Karaites, and when the mysterious book Bahir appeared in the 12th century, this doctrine was taken for granted and became a key concept in Kabbalah. The Hebrew Book of the Dead presents Jewish religion from its lesser-known side.
