Description
This memoir is Rudyard Kipling’s final book, begun about six months before his death. In these engaging memories, he describes his childhood in India and England, where his parents sent him to school at the age of five, followed by his school years, journalistic work and early literary attempts in India and the beginnings of his successful career in England. He recalls numerous small events that influenced his writing and vividly describes meetings with notable people, including his uncle, the painter Burne-Jones, his cousin and future prime minister Stanley Baldwin, South African politician C. Rhodes and American president T. Roosevelt. Readers will also value Kipling’s account of his writing methods and the way in which some of his best-known works came into being. The contents are in Czech.
