Description
Dear readers, many years ago I found an old manuscript of Karel Littloch's book "Mauthausen, the Death Camp." The author writes in the introduction: "Experiencing the hell of Mauthausen, we promised each other that whoever survives would describe from what sacrifices the freedom of European nations and the freedom of our homeland grew. With these memories, I fulfill my promise. I carried them in my memory for three years. Had I not experienced the events myself, I might have thought that the depiction of the scenes in Mauthausen was exaggerated, that it did not correspond to the truth and reality. Unfortunately, I must admit that the suffering endured was many times greater and that my recollection, after a lapse of time, is far too calm and, of course, incomplete." These sentences did not let me rest until I had read his entire testimony. As a publisher, I sought information about Mr. Littloch and his family. If my leads were correct, I found out only that he taught for some time after the war. I could not trace any relatives or acquaintances; I know he was listed as a person who returned from the concentration camp. I want this book to be a memory and recognition of those who had to endure such a hellish life. If any of you have information about Mr. Littloch or his family, please contact me. Drahomír Rybníček
