Raichl's closest friends, war veterans, and political prisoners remember him as a man filled with courage. Colonel Pravomil Raichl, a war veteran, political prisoner, exile, and recipient of the Order of the White Lion, was born on January 31, 1921. He was among the participants in the modern history of the Czechoslovak army, among the exceptional individuals of the II. and III. resistance who significantly influenced events, lives, and the fates of entire generations. He was a prisoner of the Gulag, a submachine gunner on the Eastern Front. He fought against Nazism, and after its defeat, for the rest of his life against communism. Raichl is closely linked to the circumstances of the pre-February so-called Most Spy Affair, in which he became one of the leading actors. He was subsequently sentenced to death and then to life imprisonment. He managed to escape from the Leopoldov prison to West Germany, where he continued as an intelligence officer of the Czechoslovak Guard Company. His troubled fate, wartime and post-war adventures with a relatively happy ending inspired the publication mentioned above. It arose from the simple need to preserve the memory of an extraordinary personality who never reconciled with the role of a passive victim.
