The book by Czech scientist Professor Petr Jirounek (*1938), who has linked his life and scientific career with Prague and Geneva, combines two reader-friendly genres: on one hand, there are popular-scientific passages and articles about the author's main field - neurophysiology and the interactions between glial and nerve cells - and on the other hand, chapters of his life memories. In one book, the reader finds not only the background of great research discoveries and professional insights from scientific laboratories but also moments from the lives of Czech emigrants in Switzerland and experiences from returning to the Czech Republic. The book is interestingly complemented by an unvarnished and open testimony about the author's activities in Swiss and Czech Masonic lodges. In 2004, he was elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Czech Republic.
