Description
Pheochromocytomas are rare but treacherous tumors of the adrenal medulla that produce catecholamines causing high blood pressure, palpitations, arrhythmias, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and more. The symptoms of pheochromocytoma can vary: the tumor can mimic a large number of diseases, often leading to misdiagnosis. If these tumors are not recognized or properly treated, they almost always end fatally. However, the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma is not a pursuit of a rare disease but rather a quest to understand the cause of hypertension; it can be fatal if not detected in time. If correctly classified, it then offers hope for a complete cure. The publication by experienced authors contributes to the correct and prompt diagnosis of this serious condition, which is a fundamental prerequisite for effective treatment, usually through surgical resection.
