Description
Pancreatic carcinoma represents a significant medical problem in all developed countries due to its increasing incidence and persistently high mortality. It is a disease that is often diagnosed only in advanced stages with current methods, when the hope for curative resection is practically zero. Unfortunately, with pancreatic carcinoma, even early stages of the disease do not have a good prognosis despite radical surgical intervention, as one might expect with gastrointestinal cancers. Despite all advances in diagnosis and treatment, pancreatic carcinoma remains one of the most serious cancer diseases with high mortality. I believe that the presented monograph will help the medical community to rationally diagnose and treat this disease and contribute to improving the prognosis for all patients affected by pancreatic cancer. The multidisciplinary concept of this monograph, which was necessitated by the rapidly increasing amount of theoretical and clinical knowledge about pancreatic carcinoma, prompted me to reach out to a large group of authors, with whose help I can present a book that reflects current opinions on the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of this serious disease.
