Konkomitantní chemoradioterapie solidních nádorů – Kocáková Ilona (2011)

The publication describes the general principles of the interaction between cytostatics and ionizing radiation when administered together in a specific temporal sequence. This method of combined therapy is referred to as concomitant chemoradiotherapy (or radiochemotherapy). The monograph further outlines the risks of toxicity associated with concomitant treatment, options for radioprotection, and an overview of the cytostatics used in chemoradiotherapy. A special section of the publication discusses the use of concomitant chemoradiotherapy for the standard treatment of solid tumors and also potential future approaches to combined therapy. The dynamic development of concomitant chemoradiotherapy worldwide and the abundance of new findings do not allow for a complete enumeration of all possible options for combined treatment administration. Therefore, the authors attempt to provide a brief overview of the basic information on the potentiation of radiation effects through the simultaneous administration of systemic anticancer therapy. They aim to bring experts dealing with this issue closer to new findings and facilitate their orientation in the subject matter.
