Despite the pharmaceutical industry developing a number of new preparations for the treatment of diabetes in the last decade, clinical and epidemiological studies demonstrate a continually increasing incidence of vascular complications among diabetic patients. These complications are the main cause of significantly increased mortality in diabetics compared to non-diabetics. Diabetologists are also striving to innovate the education of patients and to find ways to motivate them to adhere to regimen measures in order to achieve satisfactory diabetes compensation, as this is the foundation for preventing all vascular complications.
