Description
We wish for a future in which human and machine intelligence enhance each other. For this to happen, both intelligences must properly understand each other. The idea that we will train AI to the point where it understands us, and then simply withdraw and hope that the machine will start to respect us, is not a guarantee of success or safety.
We must strive to understand the challenges that AI will present us with – even though we do not have past experiences that guarantee we understand the situation correctly. And in overcoming this monumental task, we must also manage numerous difficulties that our species faces today.
