Description
Drawing on deep knowledge of Russian affairs, the author presents an informed analysis and summary of the causes and course of the social, economic and political decline of contemporary Russia, which led to its aggression against Ukraine. Russia is portrayed as a typical petrostate that missed the opportunity to use its enormous oil and gas revenues to modernise. Unable to make the transition to modernity, it seeks to reverse this process in the rest of the world. Almost all of Russia’s political activity is therefore aimed at halting humanity’s progress towards a new modernity and returning human civilisation to the way it functioned in the past.
