This historical novel takes place in the legendary British Isles at the end of antiquity, amid the world of the Celts and their ancient customs, the slowly disintegrating Roman Empire and the gradual rise of Christianity. It is a world of pagan rituals, the first churches and the birth of legends. Eimhir is born into this world, and through her eyes we witness the clash of different traditions and interests that inevitably determines the direction of future developments and transforms the old world forever. As an educated druid, Eimhir seizes the opportunity to influence events and attempts to preserve the ancient heritage of her land amid an increasingly turbulent swirl of events. Yet it becomes ever more difficult to distinguish allies from enemies, honour oaths and obligations, and decide which side to support. What do the gods intend for Britannia, and can this struggle be won by human means at all? Diana Mičková’s debut novel is a historical saga supported by exceptional specialist knowledge and written in an engaging, almost poetic style. The two volumes come as a complete set.
