Nives, co to povídáš? – Naspini Sasha (2023)

Freshly widowed Tuscan farmer Nives suffers from exhausting loneliness and insomnia until she brings home a hen named Giacomina as a companion. The woman feels relieved, even happier than she did beside her late husband, Antea. "I sacrificed my life for a man who could have been replaced by a chicken," she thinks in astonishment, while Giacomina perches on the chair where Ante's body still leaves an imprint. It's funny to see her there, with wide eyes in front of a TV quiz show or listening to politicians bickering. One day, the hen watches an advertisement for a washing machine, which puts her into a trance. Sitting there with her usual vacant expression, she is completely still. But where will Nives find another friendly laying hen with such a pleasant nature? In a panic, she calls an old acquaintance, the veterinarian, for advice. What follows is a phone call that seems to last a lifetime, a call that becomes a novel. The conversation between Nives and Lorian shifts from the hen to the past – to missed opportunities and lost loves, to revelations that are hard to digest in old age, to wounds that never healed.
