Description
Readers of the famous novel Angel's Ashes will learn in the loose sequel how it really was with that ash. The author, carrying within him all the pains of Irish Limerick, full of poverty, illness, and family tragedies, leaves for America to grapple with new problems on Manhattan, torn between the desire for education and the necessity to make a living. He works at the docks, serves in the army, tries to study, and sends money home to his mother. His eyes and teeth heal, he gains confidence. His erotic dreams come true, he wins the heart of a celestial blonde, and starts a family in a Protestant environment, but social ascent takes its toll. The story, full of humor, is written with great sensitivity and knowledge of the period's realities.
