Carmen Korn's trilogy The Saga of One Century about the fates of four friends from Hamburg, spanning from spring 1919 to January 1999, has won the hearts of millions of readers. The first volume, Daughters of a New Era (PROSTOR 2019), set from 1919 to December 1948, introduces young Henny, Käthe, Ida, and Lina as they experience the darkest periods of German history – the economic depression, the rise of the Nazis, the brutal persecution of Jews, World War II, and the first post-war years leading up to the currency reform. In the second volume, The End of Old Times (PROSTOR 2020), the author follows her heroines through the years 1949 to 1969, during the times of economic miracle and rock 'n' roll. At the beginning of the final volume, the friends are around seventy years old. Together with their descendants, they are confronted with the terrorist attacks of the RAF, the war in the Middle East, the AIDS epidemic, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the reunification of Germany. Due to her study of female friendship and the development of her heroines' emancipation, Korn is now referred to as the 'German Ferrante.'
