Biggles, who is an experienced pilot despite his young age, fights in World War I with his aircraft on the front lines in France. The battles are often ruthless and brutal, yet the hero maintains a distinctive sense of humor and an indispensable perspective. The author masterfully describes not only the dramatic aerial dogfights but also the demanding operations involving entire squadrons. The strain is enormous, and the demands placed on the pilots are often exhausting; nevertheless, Biggles and his comrades experience the strength of friendships forged by war and the necessity of relying on one another. This title belongs to the legendary series of nearly a hundred books chronicling the adventures of British aviator James Bigglesworth during World War I and II. Since the first Czech edition of Biggles from camel fighters in 1938, the book traditionally includes stories from two of Johns' books, The Camels Are Coming and Biggles of the Camel Squadron. It is now published in a completely revised translation, for the first time with dozens of unique color illustrations by Jan Stěhul, which will delight not only the reader's heart but especially the boyish soul of many adults.
