Description
In his autobiographical novel, the author tells the story of the life of a bewildered intellectual named Maarten, at times seriously and with psychological insight, at times with light irony and humor. The book constantly oscillates between the past and the present. The past reveals to the reader the strict upbringing of the only child Maarten in the isolation of the family vegetable farm in the 1950s, while in the present, we follow his genetic research, attempts to connect with women, and a trip to Switzerland for a scientific conference. As the title suggests, the novel intertwines sensitive depictions of nature, serving as a parallel to the protagonist's psychological states, who suffers from neuroses and inner fears. Thus, images of water, light, and the Swiss mountains alternate before the reader's eyes.
