The book of interviews with journalist, editor, film publicist, and translator Agneša Kalinová (1924–2014) captures almost her entire life and has the character of memoirs. The strong personal story of Agneša Kalinová, inseparable from the political upheavals that occurred during her life, is also a dramatic portrayal of 20th-century society, which was the interviewer's intention. In the first part, she describes her happily spent childhood in Prešov, in an assimilated Jewish family, which ended when the previously tolerant and friendly atmosphere of the smaller cultural city changed due to aggressive nationalism. She escapes to Hungary before the violent deportation, where she hides for two years in a Catholic convent and, towards the end of the war, in Budapest. Only after returning to Slovakia does she learn about the tragic fate of the entire Jewish community in Prešov, including her parents, relatives, and acquaintances. In the section dedicated to the post-war period, when she believed that the new society would be free and that the Communist Party would not allow the return of nationalism, she reminisces about her studies, family life with her husband, the 11 years older theater artist Ladislav Ján Kalina, under whose influence she embarked on a career as a translator and journalist.
