Description
Gilles Lipovetsky (born 1944), a renowned essayist and social thinker, points out how today's Western society radically differs from previous and other cultures through the phenomenon of fashion, and how transience and ephemerality influence the thinking and behavior of large communities. Through specific examples, he illustrates the connections between fashion, consumer society, advertising, culture, mass media, and ideological and social changes. He observes the collapse of the bourgeois aesthetic ideal and simultaneously the transformation of fashion into an individual's gesture towards their immediate surroundings.
