Description
The representative photographic publication presents around one hundred and fifty unique and mostly unpublished photographs (including those by Sudek), facsimiles of letters and diaries from the lives of Hana and Edvard Beneš in Sezimovo Ústí. We see the Beneš family not only working in the garden, playing tennis, or swimming in the Lužnice River, but also their numerous visitors, including Karel Čapek, Jan Herben, Vlasta Burian, Jan Masaryk, Austin Chamberlain, and even Jiří Dimitrov. The authors of the publication have constructed a vivid portrait of the taste and level of not only the living conditions but also the social contacts of the diplomat, politician, and later president of Czechoslovakia, based on unknown or overlooked visual documents, archival materials, and the memories of friends, architects, and photographers.
