Description
The book describes the emergence of pastoral theology as a university discipline in the context of the Theresian-Josephinian reforms. It outlines the circumstances of its inception, the intellectual background, and notes various interpretations of Catholic Enlightenment. It presents the first Czech textbooks on pastoral theology and compares their approach to the topics of homiletics and catechetics; the latter is also related to a number of period catechetical illustrations. The text provides a brief overview of the further development of pastoral theology and characteristics of its main stages; it raises the question of the inspirational nature of the beginnings of pastoral theology for its contemporary understanding.
