Description
This English-language graphic novel adapts five classic fairy tales by Karel Jaromír Erben, whose work is considered the Czech equivalent of the Brothers Grimm and one of the great treasures of the Czech fairy-tale tradition. In Long, Tall and Sharpeyes, three strange friends travel the world in search of adventure. Reason and Luck battle for the soul of a peasant boy, while a royal pair of twins faces the fateful decision of which path to choose. In Jump, Cudgel, Jump, a poor cobbler resolves his midlife crisis. Fear strikes everyone who encounters Little Otik, a wooden child carved from a tree stump by childless parents who magically comes to life. Lucie Lomová is a Czech comic-book author and illustrator best known for her series about two little mice, Anča and Pepík, which was adapted into a Czech animated television series. Her first book for adults, Anna en cavale, appeared in French in 2006 and in Czech a year later. Her other works include Divoši, about an Indian brought to Prague in 1908, and the crime story Na odstřel. She also collaborates on interactive games and advent calendars for the Czech Television website.
