Description
An impressive and adventurous story of a Jewish boy in Poland who hides for several years in the forests and with families in the countryside. He is the last survivor of his family. He experiences the worst betrayal when his Polish "saviors" actually hand him over to the Gestapo for money, but he also witnesses many heroic acts of help. During the war, he loses an arm but survives. Ideal as recommended reading for children. Translator Lenka Bukovská received the Golden Ribbon for the best translation of children's and youth literature in 2013 for her translation of The Island on Bird Street from Hebrew.
