Description
As is often the case in Iveta Svobodová's books, the primary impulse for the detective plots and narrative is a family secret. Markéta Mydlářová is a young art historian and restorer, and she is the last descendant of the Old Town executioner Jan Mydlář. At the beginning of Advent, a statue of Our Lady of Montserrat is stolen in Emauzy, and Markéta discovers this crime. And that's not all. Several murders are connected to the robbery, indicating that antique dealers are covering their tracks. The case is taken up by investigator Jan Kadlec, known from Svobodová's earlier novel The End of the Game about the Vyšehrad treasure. And it is in the casemates of Vyšehrad that the first corpse is accidentally found.
