Description
On the Edge of Days, the author recounts in detail his fateful relationship with Milan Kundera. The book also features other significant personalities. A long-time close friend of Petr Prouza was politician Jaroslav Šabata, to whom he dedicated a lot of space as well. By a series of suggestive determining circumstances and in a paradox of history, Šabata, as a nineteen-year-old young man, wrote a recommendation for seventeen-year-old Milan Kundera to join the party. In another remarkable coincidence, Petr Prouza spent several weeks as a patient in the Na Bulovce hospital, on the fifth floor of the clinic, and in exactly the same room from which Bohumil Hrabal departed for eternity, with whom he was well acquainted and shared an interesting journey through Yugoslavia. The author's personal experiences are also connected with Czech philosopher Karel Kosík, poet Jan Skácel, and writer and journalist Ludvík Vaculík. Petr Prouza also frequently mentions the family friend of writer Ladislav Fuks, painter Jan Zrzavý, and writer Eva Kantůrková.
