Description
Valja Stýblová's novel introduces readers to Josef Hlávka as an uncertain student with ambitious dreams, working tirelessly to achieve them, leaving him no time for love, particularly for Marinka Čermáková, whom he shamefully neglected. Hlávka always presented himself as a Czech patriot, but he became famous mainly for realizing large projects for the Viennese government, which otherwise did not favor the Czech element. There are many such paradoxes in his life, but they all connect to one exceptional ability of Hlávka: unlike others, he was always able to realize his plans.
