The continuation of the very popular humorous novel Pure Joys. We once again meet the hero named Nat Jessel - he gets married, and his happy wandering life as a traveling salesman is a thing of the past. He embarks on one last business trip through the towns and solitude of Utah, Arizona, and Nevada, experiencing new adventures, but pure joys suddenly begin to elude him, even though he is a successful businessman with his own family. He cannot avoid dramatic life crises and eventually settles in far-off Yellowknife, Canada. He narrates all of this with a humorous perspective, having long since lived in a cabin by Clearwater Creek in the Canadian wilderness, where his friend, instead of the lioness Eileen, has become a wolf accidentally caught in a trap. Nat reminisces about everything he experienced in Canada. He was a gold miner, ran a real estate agency, sold cars, worked as a wilderness tour guide... and above all, in Canada, he raised his daughter Evelyn, with whom pure joys began to return to him - a bit different and more modest than those he knew in his youth, but ultimately more lasting.
