Památné šumavské křížky - Stachy – Voldřich Jan (2025)

The book describes the stories of the creation and reconstruction of the cross monuments, chapels, shrines, and rooster crosses in the Šumava region, particularly in the Stašsko area and parts of Nicovsko, as well as the locations of their origin.

The introduction describes small sacred buildings as part of the Šumava landscape and provides a theoretical introduction to the technical questions of their production. The main part of the book presents a description of one hundred and eleven monuments, set against the backdrop of the history of individual settlements and Šumava buildings in the region where the monuments are located. The book thus represents a unique and comprehensive almanac of the history of the Stašsko settlements and parts of Nicovsko and the small sacred buildings within them. The stories are collected from historical documents, memories of witnesses, and are supplemented with historical and contemporary photographs.

The publication loosely follows three previous titles by the author Jan Voldřich on Šumava themes and is his fourth work, created in collaboration with two other co-authors, Irena Minsterová and Ivan Vokáč. All have an emotional connection and personal ties to the subject matter and the place.
