Description
The autobiographical book Stone and Life discusses the life and work of a Czech geologist who was employed during his professional career at the Central Geological Institute in Prague, taught at the University of Kuwait, and after emigrating to the United States worked for major multinational companies Gulf and Chevron in exploring and verifying oil and gas deposits around the world, including North America, Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries. Additionally, he lectured externally at the University of Houston and for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), of which he is a member, and completed several prestigious lecture tours at universities in the United States and in post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union. During his travels, besides professional matters, he paid attention to the socio-political, cultural, and social peculiarities of various countries and often made local friends who helped him understand the events in those countries. He analyzed his observations and tried to assess and present them as objectively as possible, excluding common clichés.
