Description
I think that Kotet and I will remain friends until death. I probably won’t return to Tamlelt and won’t be driving around the drying Atshan. Somewhere deep in my heart, however, I have the certainty that I could live in Kotet's kingdom, with his sheep and goats, with his large family and grown sons, with his two donkeys and camels, even if, as we say here, there was no salt left. If all my dreams and well-thought-out truths collapsed, if the last vestige of love departed, Kotet would welcome me friendly, treat me to mint tea, and joke around. I have an unissued but still valid passport to his kingdom. And if I were to leave, God forbid, he would stand as a faithful silhouette in front of the dark tents, waving goodbye until I dissolve into the ochre horizon of the mountain ridges.
