Description
The book of short stories and texts from the totalitarian years of Nazism and Communism evokes the atmosphere of this complex time, during which old values of humanity and rights were lost. The stories span the period from the Heydrich era to the 1970s. Most of the texts attempt to capture the emptiness of the Stalinist construction era and its devastating impact on Czech society (e.g., the stories Doctor Fuchs, The Story of Seven Monks, and Revolutionary Times). Some short texts express hope that the times of totalitarianism will eventually pass. The prose is interspersed with short poetic inserts that illustrate the content of the stories. Some of the stories are inspired by the nature of the Ore Mountains, where the author worked for a long time. The author of the pen drawings that accompany the text of the stories and emphasize the intertwining of reality and the mystery of mental experience is MUDr. Vladimír Svoboda.
